Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) Apr 10: Brunei's national football team climbed two places up to 189th in the latest rankings released by the world governing body Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
According to local daily the Borneo Bulletin on Friday, it marked the national team's lowest position in more than three years since they achieved the ranking of 184th in the world in October 2017.
Brunei fell six places to 190th in the updated rankings a month later and dropped further to 196th in the rankings a year later in October 2018. However, Brunei's ranking subsequently improved from November 2018 onwards and stayed at 191st until FIFA's latest rankings released on Wednesday.
Brunei aims for a berth in the group stage of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup, which is scheduled to take place in December this year.
The FIFA rankings, which rank national football teams across various confederations through a point system basis, were released for the second time this year. The next rankings are expected to be released in May, two weeks before the start of the re-scheduled Euro 2020.
