Tel Aviv [Israel], October 8: Hezbollah said it attacked an Israeli military intelligence base near Tel Aviv after the enemy military issued a warning along Lebanon's southern Mediterranean coast.
According to AFP on October 8, Hezbollah said it had launched "a series of rockets at the Glilot base of military intelligence unit 8200 in the suburbs of Tel Aviv".
For its part, the Israeli army announced that it detected five rockets launched into its territory from Lebanon on the evening of October 7, and that its air defense system had been activated.
"Following sirens sounding in several areas of central Israel, five rockets were detected from Lebanon at Israeli territory," the military said. It is unclear whether the announcement is related to the Hezbollah attack mentioned above.
"The Israeli Air Force intercepted several missiles, the rest fell into open areas," the statement said.
Also on the night of October 7, Lebanese media reported that Israel carried out two new attacks on the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut.
At the same time, the Israeli army also announced that it would soon launch a military operation on the southern bank of Lebanon, which if carried out would mark the next escalation in the fighting with Hezbollah.
"Urgent warning to vacationers, beachgoers, and anyone using boats or other means of transport from the south of the Awali River, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will soon launch an operation in the waters to counter Hezbollah's terrorist activities," IDF Arabic-speaking spokesman Avichay Adraee warned on X (formerly Twitter).
"For your own safety, people should not go to the beach or be on the beach from now until further notice. Being on the beach and traveling by boat in the area south of the Awali River will put your life at risk," the warning said.
The warning applies to a 58-km stretch of coastline along the Mediterranean and comes on the one-year anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel, which sparked the Hamas-Israel conflict in Gaza.
