Odisha: Chariot preparations in full swing in Puri for Jagannath Rath Yatra

Puri (Odisha), June 16 (ANI): Final preparations for the world-famous Rath Yatra in Puri are in full swing. This year Rath Yatra, the oldest and largest Hindu chariot festival, will take place on June 20. Heavy police and security forces have been deployed in Puri to control the devotees.The festival begins with the decoration of three grand chariots, each dedicated to the deities. It is a procession where Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra, and younger sister Subhadra are taken from their abode in Sri Mandir to Gundicha Temple. The magnificent chariots are constructed by skilled carpenters known as ‘Maharana’.Balkrishna Moharana, Chief carpenter of Lord Balabhadra said, “...We have received orders to finish all preparations two days before the Yatra. So, we are working accordingly. 90% of the work has been done...”
